Since 2006 AllGates has been brewing fine craft beers in the heart of Wigan, in a fully restored 19th Century Grade II-listed, tower brewery, in the process re-establishing brewing in the town centre after a near forty year absence, following the closure of Moorfield’s Brewery in the 1970’s.
First brew was 'Napoleon’s Retreat' (3.8%) - a well-rounded traditional ale, made with three types of malt and three varieties of hops. This was quickly followed by 'Young Pretender' (3.8%) - a very pale beer, very crisp, with an aroma of citrus fruit, leading to a dry and hoppy finish. Other early brews include 'Brightblade' (4.0%) and 'Bottoms Up' (4.2%).
All Gates are distributors of real ciders from Gwynt y Ddraig from South Wales, Sandford Orchards of Devon, Thistly Cross from Scotland and Hallet’s of Somerset and deliver to pubs, bars and restaurants throughout the North West.
The brewery overlooks the parish church gardens in the centre of Wigan. Despite its ancient surroundings, the brewery is a high-tech modern operation consisting of a brand new Vincent & Jonson 5-barrel plant, which is capable of producing 35 barrels per week.
A bar has been installed in the brewery. A great place to sample the Allgates brews. Brewery trips for up to 30 people.
