FREE TRIP on Friday, 24th April
There is a free trip, on a preserved bus, visiting 5 real ale pubs in the outer regions of our branch area. The bus leaves Docs Symposium in Wigan at 7pm on Friday 24th April and will return back in Wigan town centre in time for last buses and trains home.
The purpose of the trip is to survey/review pubs which are more difficult to get to using public transport. As such, we cannot tell you which pubs will be visited as we don't want publicans to be prewarned of our visit.
All CAMRA members are welcomed. No need to reserve your place .... just turn up.
Pub of the Season (Spring 2015) : WIGAN CENTRAL
Congratulations to Wigan Central Real Ale and Cider Bar upon being voted Wigan CAMRA Pub of the Season for Spring 2015.
The presentation of the award will take place on 29th April at 8pm. All are welcomed.
North Wales social trip on 9th May
Our social trip to North Wales on Saturday 9th May is now over-subscribed and we are currently operating a waiting list with 9 people on it. However, if we get just a few more people it may well be viable to upgrade to a larger coach.
The trip will be visiting a community brewing company – Cwrw Ial brewery in North Wales, the only social enterprise brewery in the UK. The brewery is more than just a community project and collaborates with other local business, artists and social enterprises. Doug, the head brewer, will be providing a couple of casks for our consumption at the brewery – which, in his words, a big shed on a mountainside.
In keeping with the community theme, we’ll then visit a nearby pub which is owned and run by the local community – the Raven Inn at Llanarmon yn Ial. As well as serving real ales the pub it is also renowned for its real ciders.
We’ll also be visiting the Blue Bell Inn at Halkyn – another pub at the hub of the community which incorporates the local post office. It is also just happens to be the CAMRA Vale of Clwyd Branch Pub of the Year 2015 and a previous winner of North Wales Cider Pub of the Year.
As May is also CAMRA’s Cider Month, we may even get the chance to stop off at the farm shop of one of North Wales’ few cider producers – Rosies in Llandegla.
Costings have yet to be finalised but will be around £15 per person which will cover the cost of the coach and brewery tour, including beer sampling, but no food. There be opportunities to purchase food at The Raven.
The coach leaves Wigan at 11am and arrives back around 9.30pm.
